Trying to find the children of Kenneth Furneaux-Harris who had two children Susan and William. William moved to New York and Susan moved to France. Their father had a brother called Antony and two sisters Vera and Dorothy. I am the grandaughter of Antony Furneaux-Harris. Antony had 4 children with his wife Hilda Henderson Edward my father,Jean, Ann and John. Wanted to know if Susan and William are still alive.

My Grandmother was Amy Furneaux, born in Greenwich, 1891. Her father was Thomas Albert Furneaux who was a Police Constable; he died before Amy was married to Horace Cowtan in 1917 (St Pancras, London). A witness at her wedding was Eric Furneaux. I can't find any reference to any of these three Furneauxs and would like to hear from anyone who can tell me anything about them and any relatives I may have from my Grandmother's family. Sheila

I recently requested information from Michael FURNEAUX with regard to resolving a concern which I had regarding the husband of Alice de la LEE (from the Furneaux family)..I had to hand conflicting information. Remarkably Michael was able to supply documentation to the effect that Alice had TWO husbands: firstly William BAUD (BAUDE/BODDIE)died c.1386, secondly Sir Thomas MORWELL.... the conflict of information thereby resolved! However... we then find that Alice (co-heir with sister to significant family estates) transferring said estate shares to her sister... by so doing raising the question of descendants. Did she have descendants or was this the reason why she transferred the estates to her sisters family??? Can anyone assist with ANY information regarding descendants of Alice de la LEE and William BAUD (BAUDE/ BODDY) or Alice de la LEE and Sir Thomas MOREWELL. FINALLY I must extend a huge thankyou to Michael Fureaux for his enormous contribution towards lifting the veil which obscures my descent. This site is an incredible resource! My Great Grandmother was a Furneaux. Her name was Emily and she was born around 1888 in the St Pancras area of London. I believe her parents were Alfred and Sarah and that she had brothers Alfred, Albert, George and Charles and a sister called Alice. There may be more siblings that don't appear on the 1901 census. Emily married Arthur E Tubb in 1912 and had two sons William and Edward and a daughter Ivy. Yes the Furneaux's did come over with william "BUT"the Furneaux's were already here long before 1066 Asquitell and Odo are more than possible that they are the son's of Anschetill who was the son of Ulfeetel and he was the great, great,son of Ethelred the Unready who was born 968 ADwho became of England in 978.

Hello! I am researching the Anketill line and wondered if anyone has any information on the first Anketill in England. I have found the line back to about 1300 in Dorset with William who married Elizabeth Filliol daughter of William Filliol and some references to a Ralph Anketill who was a verderer of Gillingham forest and lived in Blackmore before that. A branch of this family received a land grant in Ireland where their home is called Anketell Grove. Their home in Dorset was called Anketell Place. There are many family lines that start with persons with Anchetill as a given name from the time of the Conquest of William but all lead to other surnames such as De Harcourt, De Grey, De Huby, Bulmer, etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

The eldest son Alfred (b.1874 ) was my grandfather. He married Eliza Frost 25.12.1902 and changed the name to Furneau. They lived in Hungerford Road N7. One of my Grandfather's brothers, Samuel Furneaux, lived in Mill Hill N London and died in 1978 aged 101. My father's brother Leonard Furneau (b.1907) spent many years in Africa. My sons David and Peter live in Warwickshire and Johannesburg respectively. Leonard Furneau's son Victor lives in Surrey as do Victor's sons Steven and Graham Furneau. I am about to allude to is the only apology I can make for deviating from the proper rule for makeing application to your Honorable Board and I humbly hope for pardon in this single Instance.---having been chiefly instrumental inpreventing seizing 157 casks of spirits and 5 bags of tea on the 18th feby last about 2 miles to the westward of Newhaven I had but one Dragoon with me when I fell in with a large gang of desperate smugglers in the very act of hoisting the goods up the cliffs indefiance of a boatman who was among them but on our advanceing up to them the rope was let go and some goods fell with a crash to the foot of the ciffs. I found them very abstinate and one came to me who appeared to be a person of respectability and said it was hard to lose all and persuaded me to take half.I presented him a loaded pistol and ordered him to stand back or I would shoot him ,at the same time my Dragoon was hemmed in by part of the company when I advanced and told them I would fire among them if they did not let the Dragoon out,they then fell back and after a severe scuffle and firing many rounds of ballover there heads we succeeded in repelling them and drove them from our part of the ciffs to another as they endeavoured to haul it up at different places, your Honors,will be pleased to observed that this gang was the same thatis denominated the desperate on......Gang and have been the fatal instruments of many poor Boatman being dismissed the service for the want resolution to cope with them which your Honors . are aware of.---I then proceeded towards the watch house and went under the cliffs and found one of our crew had seized 18 Tubs and 2 bags of tea,I still pers,vered and about a quarter of a mile futher on I fell in with and seized 44 casks and 3 bags of tea.--A Exciseman came from Bearshide Gap and assisted in collecting this number but I was the absolute sizing officer of this caskes I most humbly submit that had it not been for my great exertion firing and alarming the coast, the whole of the goods would have been nun being evidently one and the same conern.Mr Sankey chief officer of the Tidemill station has laid claim and I find has been allowed to share in the whole of this seizure but for what reason I know not.The military also are I presume to share from the whole.Itherefore most humbly entreat under allexisting circumstances that your honors will be graciously pleased to allow me to participate in the whole of the157 casks and the 5 bags of tea seized on this accasion as it was well known it was entirely owing to my great exertion and perseverance the seizure in question was effected and the whole would have been landed and conveyed in safely into the country. During the reign of Henry II(1135-1189)there is the first mention of a warren (hunting area for small game)in Dawish.The King made a grant to Philip de Furnell,which reads thus; King Henry of England,Duke of Normandy and Aquitaine, Count of Anjou to his Justices,ministers and foresters,greetings. I grant thatPhilip de Furnell may have the right of warren in the manor of Dawish as his ancestors held it fully and freely inthe time of King Henry,my grandfather,.And I forbid anyone to hunt in it or take hares in it without licence from him,under penalty of £10---Apparently there had been a previous grant to the de Furnell family,but the document has been lost.It is tempting to think that the warren referred to the modern Dawlish Warren,but that is unlikely, since it was in the manor of Kenton and the charter exressly states that the land wasin the manor ofDawlish.------I have now got a copy of the lost document which is on size A3. Hopefully someone will read this and maybe give me the next link. I am a direct decendant of Joseph Furneaux who was born in England in December 27, 1763 and died in Newfoundland November 4, 1809. He arrived in Newfoundland in 1785 from Darthmouth, England at the age of 19 to work as manager of the fish trading company from England, Newman & Roope. Many of our relatives have since moved to other parts of Canada & the United States.

Comments:I don't know much about my family history on the Furneaux side. My father, Robert Alfred Furneaux was born on 01/24/43 (?) and is from the Chicago (Illinois) area. His father (the elder Furneaux) was not around since my birth and I know very little about him. I know he was living in the Chicago area for at least part of his life. Comments:I've been looking for help on my family history for years, someone please help me! My grandfather, Donald Lawrence Furneaux was born on July 21, 1927 or 1928. His mother, Ivy Furneaux, had him out of wedlock, possibly with a jewish man. Donald was raised by his aunt, Millie Furneaux. He later married Patricia, had five children, Richard(my father), Jeanette(Denice), Terry, Robert, and Mary(Danielle). I'm told that Donald worked on the railroad at some point and that his mother, Ivy, did eventually marry, but not to his father. Someone please email me with some information or post it here!

With prove I can say that Anschitil De Furneaux held Aynderby Furneaux in 1084 which is now called Ainderby Steeple in Yorkshire.also Odo was given the Manor of Cudworth in somerset near chard.Also Alan de furneaux was holding the manor of Newland near Cullompton and lands in Kentisbeare long before he had fenottery.The ref to Hamlyn and henry records about Henry Furneaux b 1530 is wrong as I have out. Furneaux) came to the U.S. from England (don't know when exactly when). He lived in Michigan and worked for the telephone company (Michigan Bell, I think). His son and my grandfather, was Randall Richard Furneaux. My grandmother's name was Jewell. They too lived in Michigan, the Detroit area. They later retired to Sarasota, Florida. My grandfather died about 5 years ago. My father is Richard Randall Furneaux. He and my mother live in Ohio. I know our family history goes back to Tobias Furneaux, but I am not sure how. Comments: My mother's mother was Mary-Emily Furneaux, born 1867 in Buckfastleigh. She died in 1956. She had two brothers, John Mudge and William and a sister Susan. I have all the information on those four and their descendants down to the present day. My son Iain and his family are soon to relocate to South Island New Zealand, so we were looking up the matter of family trees, when we found your fantastic site. The is already a (second?) cousin - grandson of William, who lives out there already. The four siblings mentioned above moved with their parents - John Mudge and Susan Elizabeth (nee Bovey) up to South West London in the (I believe) 1890's, evacuating their house Oaklands. This seems to us to have been a precipitated move, over which a cloak of silence has always been present. None of them ever explained. Does anyone have any information on this? Comments:Update on previous message:My great grandfather Joseph McKONE (b.1840 Lambeth, Surrey) married Jessie Eleanor FURNEAUX (b.1850 Devonport, Devon) the daughter of John and Ellen (neé HOWARD) FURNEAUX. John was born in East Allington, Devon in 1813 and Ellen in Ditton, Lancs. They married 13.01.1835 and had at least 7 children: Jessie, Ellen, Elizabeth, Henry, Edward, George and William four of them born in Devonport. Jessie and Joseph MCKONE (married in 1876)had three children: Jessie Eleanor(b1877 d.1878), Edith Furneaux (b.1878) and Joseph Albert (b1879 d.1881) all of them born in Lambeth, London. According to the 1881 census Joseph was living in lodgings and I cannot trace what happenend to Jessie Eleanor or the remaining child Edith Furneaux. Any clues or further information? As a matter of interest John FURNEUAX's father married Jane ELLIOT in Ugborough on 11 April 1796. Jane was born in Bigbury and the marriage records indicate that John came from Plymouth Charles. Apart from my father, Richard Thomas William (born June 1900), I never knew any of my Furneaux relatives. Dad had two brothers - Henry, a 'big-wig' in the London Fire Service during the '39-'45 war based in Canning Town fire station London and Vernon, a half-brother. Comments:I was introduced to this website by Robin Furneaux, a second cousin of my father. Dad came to Australia in 1921 with his parents and brothers. We had no contact with family in England until Robin "found" us 2 years ago. Since then I have discovered that the family dates back to Norman times - fascinating! "Conquest 1066" and "Tobias Furneaux, Circumnavigator" by Rupert Furneaux were very interesting and informative. Comments:My grandfather John Furneaux and his brother Tom immigrated to Canada around the turn of the century. They were both born in Buckfastleigh Devon. As a child I used to wonder if there many Furneaux's in the world. My grandfather once said his line went back to William the Conquerer and now I know he was telling the truth. Thanks to this website I found out that my greatgrandfather had his children late in life, that he was a wool comber (?) and labourer and that his wife was a charwoman and also no spring chicken when she had her 4 children. Comments:my father, peter samuel furneaux dob 1919 was the son of george henry and mary louisa bulley. by using this facility i seem to have a direct line back to "ode de furnellis" born in 1074 in formigny, manche, france. he appears to have come to devon sometime after 1090 as he married in venn ottery in 1099. along the way, the name has changed from de furnellis to de furneaux to furneaux.it'd be great to hear from anyone with links to this branch of the family.

John Henry had three sons Samuel born 1893, Frank - born 1896 , deceased as an infant, and my father Henry Thompson, born 1906.My wife and I had the good fortune to visit the Furneaux Island Group in 1996 and learn about Capt.
