Welcome to the Furneaux Family Website.
This Website is hosted by David Furneaux from Reading in Berkshire. Together with my father, Tony Furneaux, we have acquired information from a number of sources including the IGI index, the Devon County Records Office in Exeter, Devon, The Devon Families History Soc., other Furneaux family members and the most important source, the 2 privately printed Family histories. Initially, because of our interest , the data is mainly from the Somerset-Devon lineage but we do realise that there are other branches and hope to include these as the information becomes available.
The science of genealogy is not exact. Some of the earliest information (1100, 1200s) is gleaned from other genealogy websites but this information can sometimes be ambiguous. I have endeavoured to 'best guess' some of the earliest dates but remember there can be conflicting evidence.
Birthdates in the Middle Ages were not always recorded. The records that were kept were Parish records relating to baptism and burial. However, in these times, children were baptised/christened soon after birth as infant mortality rates were much higher than today. In some of the records, I have used the baptism dates as birth dates.
Please note that the Tree only contains persons born before 1930
